madphase v1.4.0 — Live capture, MIDI and OSC, and creative libraries

Bring cameras, screens, audio inputs, MIDI and OSC controls, and creative libraries into your compositions. Send your canvas to a virtual camera, generate with madphase AI credits, and work with finer numeric and animation controls, faster playback, and improved editing reliability.

Cameras, screens, and windows

Bring a camera feed, your screen, or an individual window into a composition as a live video layer. Combine captured footage with your effects and other layers.

Your composition as a virtual camera

Send your canvas to a virtual camera on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Manage the feed from the Canvas Output inspector to use your composition in other apps.

System audio and multiple inputs

Capture system audio alongside microphones and other inputs for audio-reactive effects and recorded takes. Mix simultaneous sources individually, with steadier beat detection and clearer tempo controls. File inputs have editable waveform clips: move, trim, change their source, and undo edits on the timeline.

Stock media, ready for your canvas

Search Pixabay photos and videos and Poly Haven 3D models, filter results, and inspect full-size previews before dropping them into a composition. You can also start a project directly from a stock photo or video.

A home for your own assets

Keep images, SVGs, videos, and 3D models in a searchable personal library. Browse built-in editable shapes and madphase artwork, preview models interactively, and drag assets into your projects.

Discover a look, then make it yours

Explore curated editable presets, restored original looks, and a Glitch collection. Photo demos and animated treatments show each look in action; compare the original and result, browse by family, and open demos for your saved presets too.

Generate and edit with AI credits

Use account-owned madphase AI credits to generate and edit images. Browse models, review generation options and estimated costs before starting, and manage credits in Account settings.

Control parameters with MIDI and OSC

In Live, map MIDI controllers or local OSC to numeric inputs and toggles, including opacity, color channels, percent/pixel sizes, effect settings and 3D model controls. Learn sources, set ranges, use relative encoders, and drive several parameters with one control. Copy inputs or duplicate layers to keep assignments, and save mappings with projects. Control visibility, playback and frame navigation, with values held through loops and seeks.

Work with a local AI assistant

Connect local AI clients through MCP in Settings → Integrations. Let an assistant edit a composition, inspect previews, animate, save, or export, with controls over what each client can do and the option to disconnect at any time.

Scrub values with finer control

Drag numeric values directly and choose your precision while scrubbing. Show parameter sliders from Settings, reset values by double-clicking their labels or rows, and choose your preferred layer stack direction.

Trim and arrange video on the timeline

Move linked video clips to change their Timeline Offset, or drag either edge to trim. Give looping clips a chosen endpoint and move the loop as a unit. Trim controls, linked regions, and undo/redo stay in sync.

More control over copied animation

Choose where pasted animation starts and fit selected animation to the timeline. Copied timing, units, and animation beyond playback duration are preserved. Fade In and Fade Out presets now expose editable start and end values. Animated controls show their current value and reveal the corresponding track; sparse animation curves display correctly.

Shape your effects directly

Manipulate 3D objects on the canvas with simpler camera controls and shared edits across matching model layers. Pixel Stretch gains separate Start, End, and Side Feather controls; shape borders gain their own feathering control for softer edges. Layer color-channel controls now use the standard keyframeable inputs.

Drop files and keep creating

Drop images and videos into an open project to add layers, or onto the homepage to start a project. Drop .cube LUTs and 3D models to add their layers, or .mphase files to open projects. A clearer drop overlay shows what will happen.

Smoother playback and editing

Live playback is faster for 3D scenes, layered video, temporal effects, and FFT EQ. Use audio-reactive opacity and color channels with live capture. Continuous parameter edits stay responsive, audio-driven previews reflect the current output, and switching preview modes or using Canvas Output keeps playback more dependable.

A more flexible place to work

Show or hide Effects and Layers together, or toggle the timeline, while retaining your workspace layout. Audio and libraries can share a resizable dock. Find focused guided tours, workflow-filtered examples, daily tips, and a customizable welcome screen, alongside refreshed icons, Rose accent colors, compact canvas controls, and a browser-based User Guide with direct links to the selected effect. Text inputs use consistent monospace typography.

Keep favorite and recent effects close

Star effects in search, browse Favorites and Recently Used, and add them with the keyboard. Your collections stay available after restarting madphase.

Align and fit your composition

Align supported 2D layers to the canvas or align multiple layers together. Fit selected layers proportionally, alternate width and height fitting, and resize with more accurate snapping. Locked layers stay protected during canvas edits.

Explore Morphogenesis and richer materials

Create organic structures with Morphogenesis, and animate pattern generators with a seamless looping Phase control. Fusion gains refined materials and continuous motion; Reaction Diffusion and Frequency Modulation have improved starting looks. Stipple patterns now open with distinct authored defaults.

Cleaner detail across the effect library

Refined glass, damage, glitch, corruption, print, paint, distortion, particle, and sonification effects improve detail, transparency, motion, and responsiveness. Airbrush glow, Gaussian spot lights, Wave and Ripple edges, and FFT EQ preserve cleaner results.

More faithful color and safer exports

Still-image formats preserve SDR color and transparency more consistently. Successful format, quality, and destination choices are remembered, dotted and Unicode source names stay intact, and a failed export preserves an existing destination file. Cancelled attempts and retries keep the editor usable.

Keep media portable and recover missing files

Embedded images, video, and file audio travel with saved projects. Missing-media feedback identifies the affected file; use Locate to reconnect it while preserving the composition and audio timing. Refresh checks restored files again, and failed opens or saves leave recovery available.

Rendering, exports, and project safety

Repaired Puppet Warp pins, meshes, and rendering; improved 3D materials, particle detail, and Cymatic Sand motion. Video decoding, export cancellation and recovery, playhead still exports, and Windows canvas presentation are more reliable. Closing unsaved work offers Save, Discard, or Cancel.

Clearer selection, settings, and account controls

Timeline selections highlight their owning layers and folders, and clicking the sole selected keyframe or preset clip again deselects it. Settings respond more smoothly and include optional usage analytics controls. AI service messages and credit checkout recovery are clearer and more reliable. Contact support directly from the app and choose which diagnostic files to include. Includes security fixes and account reliability improvements.
